"I hate politics"

A Human Centred Research Investigation...
- How might I engage youth (and myself) more positively in politics?
The inspiration                                       What this project became
How this project started                                                                           The design problem
THE RESEARCH                                           How I think I can add value
Interviews with Politicians, educators, students & activists           THE SOLUTION PHASE ONE
THE SOLUTION PHASE TWO

Once the individual has been 'interviewed' about their thoughts, feelings and concerns, I can invite them to a group discussion. This discussion would be set up as an informal chat with food and drinks and people of all political beliefs. The goal being to have an empathetic conversation where everyone thoughts get heard. There would be no debate, everyone can only ask why in answer to someones comment. This allows people the time to actually get to know how others minds are working. When empathy is created it allows people to be more open minded be less overwhelmed by hearing other views and ideas that may be very different to theirs.

** Everyone lives in their own universe. We all see the world differently so they only way we can have more positive interactions is if we can understand this idea and be less frustrated when engaging in politics.
FEEDBACK

"I HATE POLITICS" an interactive exhibition @RMIT 2019

Results: When explaining my research findings and presenting my ideas to a variety of different people during the exhibition I got extremely positive feedback. It seemed that everyone could relate to this idea of "hating politics"; they also felt as though they had never had the opportunity to talk about it in a safe place without fear of being judged.

- I had one girl write her number down so I could contact her when I get the group discussions happening.
- Many discussions were opened and had with people who hadn't ever met over this topic.
- Lots of people were really excited about the notion of design research and surprised by how it influenced my solution.
